Visionary Business - Marc Allen - Told in the form of a story of a struggling business owner and his wise mentor, the narrative covers the essential principles of business success from goal setting and planning to core beliefs and higher purpose. Influenced by New Age thought, this is a fun, inspiring and practical book.
I will also point out that, basically, I am an untrained artist. I have had two art courses in my whole life. The second art course taught me that professional artists don't use Rapidiograph pens'1. Of course, 90 of this book and most advertising illustration is done in Rapidiograph pens. I pursued my career in radio television broadcasting. Good art comes from trial and error, experience, and making as many mistakes as possible then learning from them. If you feel you have ability in art, use it in your own illusion design. If you don't have any art ability, work on recognizing good design. And remember, it takes no art ability to read and understand a blueprint. Some bankers, lawyers, oil men, restaurateurs and entrepreneurs have to read detailed building documents to get a particular project off the ground, yet they may have no art ability.
To help you devise your own business and marketing plan, here is the table of contents taken from a complete plan I recently put together for a consulting client. So, take the information I have provided regarding Idea Mapping, Goal Setting, Business Plans, USPs and Marketing Plans and do some work in planning your future. The investment of time will pay off. It is much harder to think about it than to actually just start writing.
The way I became a full-time real estate investing entrepreneur was by subscribing to the aforementioned strategy. I learned a branch of real estate investing called creative real estate investing that requires neither money nor credit because when I started I had neither What I did to allow me to go full-time into the business was that I read a lot of books, attend a few seminars on real estate, made some offers on houses each week, and made calls to sellers after work every day. Every day you are either moving toward your goals or away from them. Personally, I want to always be moving further toward my goals with each passing day. Momentum is infinitely powerful and you can make it work for you or against you. Make it work for you.
Before becoming a real estate entrepreneur, I got my master's degree in computer science and worked as a software engineer for a Fortune 500 company. And all the time I was doing it, I wondered, How will doing this work serve me in being a real estate investor, public speaker and a writer Although I did not know it at the time, I've discovered that the job helped me develop advanced problem solving skills that are applicable anywhere. By working in a successful corporation, I got a close-up look at how things are done. This is useful to me in creating my own corporations. The only way I make money now is by solving problems and thankfully I got good at solving problems in my previous job. Real estate investing and engineering software are completely different yet some of the overriding skills transfer very well.
If you want to make some serious money, and I think you do, then start a business that is synergistic with your magic business. The right business, set up the right way, and operated with systems in place, can make you rich. It is ideal to choose businesses that complement your existing activities as a magician and that target customers to whom you are already marketing to. Also consider businesses that fit your lifestyle as a magician.
For those who liked Before Your Eyes, page 168, then here's an impromptu method that makes a pocket trick of this effect. Use your own business cards instead of a slate. Write the words, Ten of Hearts, on the back of the card in black crayon, spacing them as in the slate effect. Switch this card for one prepared according to the original trick with Frick & Fleming's It's A Pip liquid. Stick this card in your upper, outside coat pocket leaving a good two-thirds of it in view (the switch could be made at this point). Now force the Ten of Hearts on someone, and then take card out of breast pocket to show your prediction. The spirits evidently have not answered as yet, so just rub your thumb over the card and your message disappears leaving the correct name on the card The spectator, of course, keeps the card as a souvenir and as an ad for you.
In the beginning there was Inside Magic, a monthly newsletter published by boy-entrepreneur Stan Allen. Each issue of Inside Magic featured a short (about 750 - 1000 words) review column written by Michael Weber. Although the focus of the review column was books, Michael occasionally reviewed videotapes and often offered news of upcoming publications. Michael Weber's reviews began with the first issue of Inside Magic (January 1985) and continued until the final issue in August of 1991. At that time Inside Magic ceased publication in order to make way for MAGIC magazine, a larger and more elaborate undertaking.
Since the client is involved in design, she is probably creative and artistic. Since she has taken on the challenge of running her own business, she must be fairly self-confident, and probably in very good heath (people with serious health concerns do not choose to start up their own company). She probably faces plenty of stress, and long hours of work. It is also safe to assume that, like most people running small businesses, she has some clients who cause cash flow problems by not paying her on time. I don't think you're cut out to be one of these flashy, egocentric entrepreneurs, with all that stress and the hassle. Most of them never get anywhere anyway Anyway, the reason I picked up on the fact that you run your own business is that I foresee some very good prospects arising from your natural ability to develop new opportunities

Readings in our usage may be nothing more at times than a comment to a friend. We do many mini readings over the phone, when standing in a line at a store, when approaching a sales clerk or server, when exchanging a greeting with someone on the street. You will discover how well our tools can be used in a wide variety of situations, and how these applications can empower the person you are speaking to, often with the result of better service, making new business contacts, or increasing your own business. At this stage of the game the spectator is unlikely to dispute you, because that would mean what they had just done previously was stupid. No one wants to be called stupid. No one wants to be considered truly crazy. But that's how we all tend to feel UNLESS we go along with the reason given, for having done what we have done. We either have to admit to ourselves and to others that we have done something stupid - and therefore might BE stupid - or we continue to go along with what has...
I don't think you are going to have 12 or 13 different jobs. Your personality indicates that you are not going to be fired or laid off. You will make substantial money in your life, but all of your work-related progress really should be towards owning your own business at some point in time.
But I feel that you are going to be very successful in this life, probably own your own business, and I would think that you like what you do. The importance of taking a course in psychology is that you will be able to relate and have empathy and compassion with people around you. I am sure that in your high school yearbook, you don't like the picture that was taken. You probably are more photogenic than that.
My feeling is at your age that you are not terribly domesticated, and that you would probably fall more into the category of the entrepreneurial woman of the 90's. And that you would be able to do things beyond the household. The point I am trying to make is, based on who you are, if you simply want to do housework, be a housewife, and have babies, that may be down the road a bit, because I think you have other things to accomplish within your life now. You're entrepreneurial so that you will be the professional in the work place. You are very good with communication skills and very good relative to dealing with people. Any type of representative, any type of service that you would perform with people, you would be very successful in that. You want to be cautious that you are not put into a position that might be introspective or introverted or that you'd be put in a corner somewhere. You need to be able to communicate with those around you.
As a long-term plan, 4 years would be significant with you in your life. You may want to carry a rabbits foot around with you that is going to be a good luck charm or good luck talisman for you. You are entrepreneurial, you are not lazy, what's going to happen is you're going to become somewhat melancholy and somewhat sentimental in thinking of the past, and what has happened to your youth.
When you're starting out and figuring out who to become, choose what tools you deem necessary for your journey. Then go out and get those tools that you haven't acquired yet. These could be communication skills, confidence skills (this book), entrepreneurial skills, relationship skills, particular skills to your profession, etc.
Effect The performer shows about 20 blank pieces of cardboard. Or he may use his own business cards for the purpose, as they are always left behind with the audience. The people present now call out two figure numbers and these are written upon the cards, a single two figured number to each card. As each card is so inscribed it is dropped into a bowl or hat and at the conclusion of the procedure any spectator gives the cards a violent mixing.
The tools and resources on Dan's site are the fuel that has generated countless fortunes and millionaires - and each tool and resource has been enthusiastically praised by thousands of entrepreneurs, executives and managers, small and home business owners, salespeople, inventors, consultants, public speakers and yes, magicians, worldwide.
Cut a blank-on-both-sides business card from white card stock. Place it against the blank side of one of your own business cards and the pair is at the bottom of the collection of 'samples' in your case. After showing some of the other words and drawings, you retain both your business card and the double blank beneath it, shown and held as one, and return all the others to the case. Rotate the packet of cards so that the word just written faces directly toward you. Thumb the card off into your right hand with the blank side toward the audience. Your own business card remains in your left hand. Pretend to read aloud the name you memorized earlier as you glimpse the first participant's word. Now forget the memorized name and instead remember the word facing you on the double-blank card. Place it back onto your own card, still in your left hand and hold the packet as before while the person named writes or draws on 'his' card.
Jones (1989) has devoted whole chapters to describing how information supplied by a prospective client in booking an appointment can give an insight into their circumstances. For example, he lists eleven pieces of information which may be found on a cheque, should the client pay in advance. These include postdated cheques indicating the imminent receipt or deposit of money outsize cheques indicating that the client runs her own business cheques under a pseudonym often indicating employment in the entertainment world. When presented within the framework of the psychic reading, information derived from these sources can be accurate and specific enough to be very difficult for the client to account for except in terms of the reader's claimed psychic ability.

These are techniques I've successfully used to transform my life from that of a shy, antisocial, computer nerd into a confident man who speaks in front of groups of people and runs his own business. I know these techniques work because I've done all of them myself. It was a long, hard road for me to break out of my shell and become confident. My major goal in writing this book is to allow you to take a shortcut on your road to unstoppable confidence by learning from my experiences.
The title Art and Artifice suggests that the essays will be studies in contrast, the contrast between the esthetic effect, and the craft which helps produce that effect. The first essay recounts the tragic life of Steele MacKaye, a theatrical producer and entrepreneur, who believed he had his finger on the pulse of the Nation, when unfortunately he had his finger somewhere else. MacKaye (whose name rhymes with sky ) began his career as an actor, having trained with the Parisian instructor Francois Delsarte. The Delsarte system prescribed a set series of gestures to express emotions, and MacKaye's life could be described as a series of grand gestures. MacKaye loved spectacle, and his productions boasted remarkable theatrical effects. It was his belief that bigger was better which led to his downfall. MacKaye convinced the planners of the 1893 World's Fair to allow him to build an enormous theater, dubbed the Spectatorium, in which MacKaye would stage a musical production recreating...
I'd like to show you what happened to me one day on the mean streets of downtown Kuna (local small, quiet hick town). I was walking along, minding my own business, when a guy on the corner stopped me. He stood behind a small table with 3 cups and a glass of water. 'Pssst Hey, Buddy ' he said. 'How'd you like to win some money playing a little guessing game Guess right, win a dollar guess wrong and you owe me a dollar.' 'What's the game ' I asked. 'You ever hear of the old shell game, the one with three walnut shells and a pea Well, this is the same thing. These cups are my shells.'
Carefully press the edges together . . . first dropping one of your own business cards between the genuine envelope and the extra portion. (Going into the secret compartment.) Now seal the envelope and place ' blobs' of sealing wax over the flap. Have a spectator initial it.
The financial calendar can also prove useful. One of my correspondents in the United States tells me that between the months of January and April, people will have federal income taxes on the brain. Here in the UK, the January deadline for Income Tax returns proves a regular headache for many people -especially anyone who is self-employed.
I originally used blank cards (1 3 4 x 3 inches for this, but by using your own business cards with name and address on one side, a good thing can be made of it as the cards chosen can then be left with the three spectators. It is no job to make up the two or three missing ones after each performance. As you now know, the serial number gives no clue whatever to the six-figure number on the same card.
I refuse to over step the delicate boundaries of good taste and decency by telling you how wonderful this item is. Instead, I'll let someone else do the talking for me. That's the greatest coin vanish I've ever seen How do you do that This is a direct quote from Chuck Martinez - professional magician, magic entrepreneur, and ne'er-do-well, after having witnessed the virgin performance of Hi Ho Silver. Since this historic moment I've been amazing, amusing, and confusing almost every magician on my block with this new
I think that you have the ability to achieve whatever you want to achieve in life. I suspect that ultimately you would own your own business, because you're not going to become rich working for somebody else. That I see very clearly, doing some traveling, and owning your own business. This will take place within the next several years. You are making your mark now as far as what you want to do and where you want to go. You will marry the girl who's favorite symbol will be the butterfly. You would learn a second language, and probably it would be French or Spanish. Money will come to you. You have the ability of turning a dollar, you have the ability of being somewhat entrepreneurial, and so in that regard you would be service-minded.
