After the cord selection, picvc up flap slate and write the message on flap, forming and spacing the letters as you Know them to be underneath. You may have them on flap in pencil. Put ┬╗late on table, flap side down and hand ordinary slate to spectator. He turns cards over one at a time and writes numbers down and adds thoa. Thus they are put down in the correct order. Before he starts to add, mention that someone else should hold the message slate. Leave flap behind and as the writing looks the same, all is well. The first man adds and gets 6113. Ask second man if the total has appeared, but it hasn't. Take it back end start to erase, holding it so all can see. The figures appear in full view, and it is but the work of a moment to draw a line just above the total. Everything now checks.
