To Prepare Perform

The description of the effect should speak for itself. The display of the nine cards, the shuffle, the dealing and number selection are identical to the "Room Service" type of effect previously explained. Naturally, you'll need the proper list of grocery items, with Kellogg's Corn Flakes listed next to number "15," a box of the cereal and a grocery bag. In addition, you'll need a sales receipt. I type mine on a piece of adding machine tape and it looks very authentic from the audience's vantage point.

To round out the list of props are the nine playing cards, the pad and a marking pen. To perform, simply follow the effect as previously described. I've also included a list of more expensive items should you be performing for a more high-priced clientele. You'll note that the force number becomes $165 instead of $1.65. Obviously, you dictate where the decimal goes after the spectator has finished totaling the three 2-digit numbers. In addition, either variation affords you the perfect opportunity for rewarding the lady volunteer. Simply make her a present of either the Kellogg's Corn Flakes in the $1.65 category or a small bottle of perfume in the $165 presentation. You could also substitute Hershey Kisses for the Corn Flakes. This'll give you the opportunity to ask the young lady if she'd like a big "Kiss?"

Both of these presentations can easily be modified to suit your performing style. Take your pick. Both have excellent entertainment potential.

This entertaining routine is a variation of the well known ten card poker deal. It first saw print in Harry Lorayne's "Apocalypse" and elicited such a heavy response, Jerry Mentzer of Magic Methods asked for and received my permission to market the effect complete with a beautiful combination display sign and prediction holder.

One of the key elements of this presentation is a large sign which my wife holds during the routine, listing the various hands possible in Poker, in the order of their importance. The Royal Flush is on top and One Pair is on the bottom. There is a table of poker hand ranking at the end of this description. The reason for the sign is twofold. 1) There are many people who do not know the ranking of hands in a game of poker and the sign eliminates any question as to who is holding the winning cards. 2) On the back of the sign is a prediction which reads: "Larry will win the $2000 wager with a full house!"

The Art Of Cold Reading

The Art Of Cold Reading

Today I'm going to teach you a fundamental Mentalism technique known as 'cold reading'. Cold reading is a technique employed by mentalists and charlatans and by charlatan I refer to psychics, mediums, fortune tellers or anyone that claims false abilities that is used to give the illusion that the person has some form of super natural power.
