Several days prior to your show, call a person you know will be there. Ask him to think of a simple picture. Tell him you will ask him to think of this picture during your performance. On the day of your performance, locate this person before the show and explain that in order to make the experiment more visual, he should draw the picture in his mind on a card. You turn your back while he does this. The face down card is then slipped into the "Get the Picture" envelope and the peek is obtained. Seal the smaller envelope inside the larger one and give it to the person to hold.
During your performance, invite the spectator on stage. Explain to the audience that you called him on the phone several days ago and asked him to think of a small picture. Have the spectator confirm that this is true and that there has been no collusion between the performer and himself. You then explain that you had him draw his picture. Again have him confirm this. The audience, of course, will think that he drew his picture at home, after your telephone conversation. Ask him if he has his picture with him. When the spectator produces the envelope, have him hold it behind his back.
The performer picks up a pad and marker and proceeds to duplicate the spectator's drawing. Retrieve the envelope (remember, it has your gaffed envelope inside) as you hand the pad to the spectator. Ask if your drawing is close to the one that he drew. As he checks your drawing, ditch the envelopes in your case. When the spectator states that you have, in fact, duplicated his mentally selected picture, retrieve the pad, autograph the drawing and give it to the spectator as a souvenir.

Today I'm going to teach you a fundamental Mentalism technique known as 'cold reading'. Cold reading is a technique employed by mentalists and charlatans and by charlatan I refer to psychics, mediums, fortune tellers or anyone that claims false abilities that is used to give the illusion that the person has some form of super natural power.
