This effect is based on Fred Raps' unpublished, ungaffed handling of Peter Kane's marketed effect The Gyf>sy Curse. My version follows the Kaps handling fairly closely. The presentation is my main contribution and the reason for publishing it here.
The premise of gambling with the Devil has appeared more than once in folklore, fantasy literature, and magic presentations. A well-known example from fantasy literature is Fritz Leiber's Gonna Roll The Bones. An early magic example is the well-known *Carter Beats the Devil" poster. The first effect presentation based on the premise that I ever encountered was David Malek's presentation for The Ultimate Card Shark from Darwin Ortiz at the Card Table.
