Method: Have the deck shuffled. When you take back the deck, explain to the spectator that he must cut off a portion of cards and turn them face up onto the talon or remaining portion to mark off the place where he cut. As you explain, cut the deck somewhere about center and turn the top portion face up onto the lower half. Spread the cards until you come to the point where they meet back-to-back.

Your right hand, holding onto the face-up portion of cards, separates momentarily from the left-hand portion of face-down cards. Raise both hands and tilt upwards. The right-hand cards are now tapped against the left-hand cards as you say, "This is to mark off where you cut."This gives you time to quickly memorize the last two face-up cards of the right hand portion. These two cards are adjacent and to the right of the face-down portion of cards.

In closing the entire spread, contrive to get a left pinky break above the last three cards of the face-up spread (the two cards you memorized, plus an extra card). The cards are still tilted towards yourself. The cards above the break are now pivoted face down in a slightly injogged position onto the face-down cards in your left hand.

Your right hand comes over to square the ends of the deck, but a right-thumb break is momentarily held. During this moment, your right thumb releases a card from above its break, covering the three face-up cards with a face-down indifferent card. As soon as this indifferent card is released, your left pinky moves in and maintain a slight break. Perform a Double or Triple Undercut to the break or Overhand Shuffle to the break.

Situation Check: The top card of the deck is face down, followed by a face-up indifferent card, followed by the two face-up memorized cards, followed by the rest of the face-down deck. You are now set to Perform the Balducci Force. Suppose that the two force-cards are the 5C and 8H, in that order.

Hand the deck to the spectator to follow the instructions you gave at the outset. After he perform the procedure, take back the deck and run through the cards until you come to the first facedown card. Thumb this card over and hand it to the first spectator. Deal over the next face-down card and hand it to the second spectator. You have forced the two memorized cards (5C - 8H)

Place the face-up cards from your right hand onto those in your left hand, ostensibly "righting" the cards. Do not worry about the single face-up indifferent card in the center of the deck. Table the deck and address the two spectators: "You won't believe what is about to happen, therefore please sign or initial your selections."

Your left hand moves under your coat to get the pen. In reality, your left fingers quickly pull out the clipped cards and dump them into your right sleeve. Your left fingers then remove the marking pen. The entire action is started before you utter your patter line. By the time you finish the line, you will be coming out with the pen. Keep your right arm bent at the elbow and relaxed, keeping the sleeved cards from prematurely dropping out.

After the spectators sign their respective cards, have one of them gather the two cards. Tell the spectator with the selections to shift both cards around to mix them. Have him then inspect your right (side) coat pocket to verify that it is empty. Ask him to place the two signed cards into this pocket with their faces towards your body. During these actions, turn your head aside, saying, "I don't want to get an accidental look at the cards." This also gives you an excuse to keep your right arm bent.

After the cards have been placed in your pocket, face the spectators and say: "With my supersensitive fingertips I will demonstrate the improbable." As you utter this line, show your right hand obviously empty. As you start to lower it to your side, your left hand grasps your left lapel and swings the coat open. Say, "This isn't a tricky coat. There are not any secret pockets." During this casual display, the coat screens your right hand, which receives the sleeved cards and quickly dumps them in an upright position and in front of the two cards lying lengthwise in the pocket. By the time you lower and close the screening coat lapel and face front, your right hand is away from the pocket.

Show your right hand empty as you rub your fingertips together (like safe-crackers in the movies) to sensitize them. Reach in and remove one of the loaded indifferent cards, holding it face down so that you and the audience cannot see its face. As you look directly at the audience, feel the face of the card with your right fingertips. Look at either spectator and say, "This card has your initials or signature on it. Let's see, your card is the." After a few seconds, name the color, suit, and value of the card you already know belongs to the spectator you are addressing. Add, "I'm right, aren't I?" When he affirms, look at the face of the card you are holding, then toss it face down into the deck without showing it. The miscall in this situation is believable.

Show your right hand empty again, then reach in your coat pocket and remove the other indifferent card. Say, "I know this is the other card." Name the other memorized card, miscalling the one in your hand. Toss it face down into the deck without showing it. You have successfully concluded the effect or so it seems. Wait a few seconds, then hand the deck to one of the spectators and say, "Guess what? That's only half of it! Please shuffle the cards?"

Tell the spectator is to perform an Overhand Shuffle. If the face-up card shows up during the shuffle, point it out and say, "It looks like you accidentally turned a card over?" The spectator will think that he inadvertently turned face up during the shuffling action. Why not let him straighten it out?

Tell the spectators that you cause their signed selections to leave the deck and appear in your coat pockets. One card will fly to your right coat pocket and the other one will fly into your left coat pocket. Tap each pocket on the outside with your hands.

Ask the spectator to riffle the front end of the deck as you say, "First, the right coat pocket!" Show your right hand empty, then reach into your right coat pocket and bring out both cards as one with the face card towards yourself. Note which card is at the face, then place the card(s) face down in your left hand.

Say, "One card went to my pocket. Which one do you want it to be?" The card named determines your next action. If the named card is the one you noted at the face, turn the card(s) face up into your left hand to reveal it.

Take the face card in a right-hand Biddle Grip or at its inner right corner between your right thumb (on top) and fingers (below). As your right hand takes it, your left fingers simultaneously Gambler's Cop the lowermost card. Your left hand immediately goes into your left coat pocket and withdraws the palmed card. Toss this card face up to the table and add, "The other card went to this pocket!"

If the named card is the top card of the aligned pair, your right hand comes over and take it in a Biddle Grip as your left hand Cops the lowermost card. Turn your right hand palm up to reveal the named card as your left hand simultaneously dips inside your left coat pocket. Withdraw the other selection to cap the effect.

If you are unable to clip two cards prior to the effect, the following procedure (in capable hands) will work: Hold the deck face up and palm the bottom two cards in your left hand. Reach under your coat, bring the two cards quickly to your fingertips, push them into the coat sleeve, and quickly remove the pen. This should be done easily and naturally. After all, you have not begun the effect yet. No special attention should be called to your actions. If you use this handling, more caution must be exercised during the subsequent routine so that the sleeved cards do not make a premature appearance.

The sleeved cards will fall more readily if you wear a short-sleeved shirt. If you have a tendency to perspire profusely, the cards will cling to your arm. Use talcum powder. Although we suggest using the Balducci Force, any force will do if it is convincing and deceptive.
