Please study the potential of this method carefully.

Effect: A spectator is handed a deck of cards. Another spectator names any one of the fifty-two cards. The initial spectator is instructed to deal the cards face up, stopping when he comes to the named card. He may at anytime deal a card face down as in the Open Prediction procedure. Despite the fact that the initial spectator handles all the cards, all the time, and another spectator has made the prediction, the face-down card turns out to be the prediction one.

The psychological approach is used again, but if things do not work out, the denouement is still strong and seems to be the one intended. The crux of the method is a memorized deck.

Method: The deck is convincingly false shuffled and cut, retaining the known order. The deck is tabled momentarily. Have Spectator B call out any card. If the named card is in the top 10-20 cards of your stack, do nothing. If the named card is between 1-10, at least ten cards are cut from the bottom to the top. If the named card is 21-52, cut off an appropriate number of cards to centralize the named card deeper than 10-15 from the top.

Calculate five cards backwards in your memorized stack system. Suppose the spectator named the 2S. In the Ireland System, the 2S is 19th. Calculate to the 14th card, which is the 4S. This is your key card.

Tell Spectator A to deal cards face up, stopping when he comes to the named Two of Spades. As he deals, watch for your key Four of Spades. When the spectator deals this card face up, stop him and say, "Oh...anytime you like...deal a card face down!" He should deal four more cards, then deal the fifth card face down if he is susceptible to the psychological forcing principle of Marlo's Original Solution To The Open Prediction.

If he does so and deals the fifth card, stop him. The conclusion is clear. If he does not perform as anticipated, he will deal the 2S face up and probably hesitate when he does so. Say, "Good! There's the Two of Spades. Keep dealing, eventually deal one card face down anytime you like, then continue dealing through the rest of the cards!"

When the spectator has finished dealing, ribbon spread the deck face up and remove the named 2S, stating that it will tell you the identity of the face-down card. Say, "This card, being

black, tells me that the face-down card has the color..." Your patter depends on the name of the face-down card and how it might relate with the 2S. Its value, for example, could be the same, half, or double the face-down card. Coordinates your patter to fit the given situation.

The same procedure is adopted if the spectator deals a card face down before he reaches the previously named 2S. If you prefers, use Marlo's deliberate approach and actually tell the spectator to deal a card face down.
