This is a very nice idea thai jimmy Douglas has come along zvith, nice because nothing coidd be more natural for placing inside a book than a book-mark. We think that it was Eddie Joseph, zoho many moons ago published a book-mark idea in the JINX. This is along very different lines and alloivs the force of at least tivo sets of words or part of ivords. Anyhow lefs hear what its originator has to say about it.

The following idea occurred to me whilst reading a book that contained a book mark mads from silk ribbon. This book-mark had a tear near the centre and so when placed upon a page a word or two became visible through this unintentional opening. Thus, with a bit of thought, I had the means for a word prediction on the lines of " Wordo," but making use of a more natural " prop." Realising its possibilities 1 set to anc! made up my faked book-marker which T now propose to describe. Taking two pieces of coloured ribbon approximately nine inches long and one and a half inches wide, a small slot measuring a quar'er of an inch by half an inch is cut from the centre of each ribbon. As it is essential that these slots shall correspond exactly when one piece of ribbon is placed upon the other it is best to placp one ribbon on the other and cut both slots at th-.-same time wi'h a sharp razor blade.

A small piece of tin is cut about li inches by \ inch wide and threads are attached at its broad side with lenq'hs which are determined as follows. Place the tin piece which has to slide up and down between the two ribbons (later stitched round fo form a tube) over the slot in ribbon and the threads are cut *o length to reach each end of the ribbon at ยก?s opposite poles, but with the top end at least b inch longer. A piece of printed matter, later to be predicted, is cut from v. boo1: and pasted on the tin. This can be done bo:h sides making two predictions possible. The ribbons are now stitched to form a tube with the fake inside and threads protruding either end. Attach a

small bead to the top end of thread and a small tassel to the bottom thread. A little pull on the bead will slide the fake from sight while a pull on the tassel end should bring the fake into the slot and if placed on reading matter in a book it will appear to be part of the type.

The ribbon marker should be shaped at the end as shown in diagram.

Borrow some books select one with printing similar to that of fake and allow a spectator to place the marker at any page he wishes. Take the book and hand to another member of the audience at the same time secretly pulling the tassel. The assistant reads the word or words in slot and your prediction proves correct. A little wrinkle may be included here. You can allow choice of the pages right or left of marker the ribbon is automatically turned over which ever side is used. The effect can be repeated using the other side of the fake with another book if desired.
