New Brandy and Water Separation by TAN HOCK CHUAN

There have been many tricks that keep different liquids apart, but this one appears doubly miraculous since no obvious apparatus is shown, thus defeating the knowing ones who look for "usual" methods. It lends itself to a variety of presentations and is equally valuable for the compere, the close-up performer or the stage showman who wants an effective aside.

You show two wine glasses, one is half full of brandy and the other water. Then you tell your audience that you are going to pour the brandy into the glass of water in such a way that the two liquids will remain separate.

You pretend to hear that someone is saying he knows how to do it. "Ah, Sir, you do not know how to do it this way", you remark. You put down the glass of water and shield it with your hand, while you pour

WALTER BEHM, offers an

Needed, a paper shell wand. Into this insert a cigarette, a small white silk and a match. Near one end of the wand glue a piece of the striking surface from a match box. The wand is wrapped in paper. Tilt it . . . reach in and produce the white silk. Again reach in and get the cigarette, put between in the brandy. When you remove your hand the brandy is seen floating on the top of the water.

You need a simple gimmick for this little stunt. Cut a disc of cork and dip it in melted wax to waterproof it. Then stick a pin into it. At the start you have secreted this gimmick by clipping the pin between the fingers of the hand holding the glass of water. The other hand holds the glass of brandy.

Put the glass of water on the table and shield it with the hand, secretly dropping the gimmick into it. With the other hand you pour the brandy a little at a time on to the cork disc which breaks its fall. At the end you clip away the disc by the pin and conceal it in your hand.

Simple—yes; but it always creates astonishment. »♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦ ♦♦♦

You are set for manipulations with silk and cigarettes.

Here is a routine which I use with your "Midget" production box (with the mirror). I have fixed the box so as the mirror is removable. On the back of the mirror I have fixed two thicknesses of thin cardboard and then a photo of myself. I made a small hole in the mouth, for a self smoking cigarette (as in the "Magic Magazine")

In the routine I show the box "empty" and then make half my production, I show it empty a second time, I then slip out the mirror photo facing the audience, I stand it up and place the cigarette in the mouth and light it, and then finish production, passing the box out for examination.

I have used this routine a few times, and it has registered with approval each time.

Yours faithfully,

Dear Max, just a line to say I consider the "Magic Magazine" nicely produced, the articles interesting and the adverts up-to-date. You have struck a happy balance in the whole get up. May your 'baby' prosper and grow as it deserves to.
