The performer nests five small cups— similar to those used in the Cups and Balls trick—and, without covering them in any way, causes them to disappear from his hands.

2. The conjurer observes. "Over a hundred years ago, Boscoj the Italian magician, made a big reputation a (J over Europe with his masterly presentation of the c.assic Cups and Balls. He used five cups and a number of balls about this size."

At this point, the entertainer removes a ball from his right vest pocket, and shows it to the audience. He then replaces it in the same pocket.

3. The performer continues: "Nowadays, most conjurers use only three cups." As he says these words, he picks up "D" with the left hand and "E" with the right. The first he drops over "A" and the second over "C". The position will be that depicted in Figure 2.

4. The entertainer proceeds: "John Ramsay, the Dean of Scottish Magicians, employs only two cups." The (double) cup on the right is picked up and dropped over the one in the centre. Figure 3.
