Presentation: Pick up each ring in turn and place in the grooves of the stand, the shell at one end. Now show the bull—and demonstrate, if you wish exactly what is going to happen by taking a ring and hanging it on the bull's nose. Replace the ring on the stand.

Now have a ring chosen. It will be one of the brighter colours. Should by any mischance the shell be chosen, although this is unlikely, use conjurer's choice by putting it away, but pick up again later. Or, if you desire to take no chances, ask for a number between one and six, and you will be sure to get any ring, except the shell.

Lift the chosen ring from the stand and rest it on the table and leaning against the stand. Now pick up the handkerchief, show fairly both sides and then fold it into a triangle. Stand behind the bull and, with handkerchief held outstretched (one corner in each hand), lower it slowly over the bull from the top. Pause a second, as your right thumb comes near the duplicate ring of the colour chosen. Ease the ring out with your thumb and raise the handkerchief a little. This brings the ring behind the handkerchief still held by the thumb. Lower the handkerchief and ring over the bull's face until the ring goes over the hook. Be sure to make this move quite naturally as though you are trying to find the best position for blindfold. Although it may sound awkward in print, it is really quite simple and arouses no suspicion.

Leave the ring on the hook. Raise the handkerchief to the desired place just above the centre, making sure you do not lift it too high and so disclose the ring. Then clip the handkerchief together at the back by means of a press stud.

Now gather up the rings, and have the chosen one verified. Hold the rings rather irregularly and put the chosen one back overlapping behind the shell The rings are held in the left hand, and a throwing move is made towards the bull. As this is done, the chosen colour ring slips into the shell. If used, the clicker is worked by the right hand. You now show the rings to prove that the chosen one has vanished! Finally, after a little by-play, you remove the handkerchief and everyone can see that the ring has successfully arrived on the bull's nose.

Note that during all this, performer is telling a story so that the moves fit in with it. The story I leave to you, but it will be more acceptable if you give the bull a name and tell how awkward he is over colours. Only a very magical farmer can get a coloured ring on this bull's nose. Incidentally, that will help to avoid the grey shell being chosen. Indeed, you will generally find that the red one will be chosen, probably because of the old saying: "It's like a red rag to a bull".
