This book teaches of Yoga, but it deals with a phase of Yoga about which you may never have heard. It also opens new avenues of thought as it presents new laws, principles, and universal concepts that are Oriental in nature. Some may find what they will read startling as this knowledge is not given as abstract theories but is presented for actual performance; for these are "the hidden teachings" which provide instructions of the practice of magic for the magicians of India.
The original draft of this work was written in Calcutta, India in collaboration with Sadhu Parimal Bandhu. Those who are familiar With my book, "The Secret World of Witchcraft," and the book, "Religious Mysteries of the Orient," coauthored with my partner, Ron Ormond, will recognize the name of Parimal Bandu. Parimal Bandu is a Hindu Sage of magnificent knowledge. I am certain that it was because of his warm friendship for Ron and his appreciation of my professional interest in magic, as an American magician and hypnotist, that he so generously revealed these secrets of Yoga magical teachings. Also, the Sadhu was a man of high intuitive powers, so it is entirely possible that he sensed the time as being right for opening to western people this phase of the esoteric wisdom of the Orient.
I am dedicating this book to two fine men, my partner, Ron Ormond, without whose spirit of adventure this knowledge could never have been sought, and the great Avatar, Sadhu Parimal Bandhu who made possible this writing of the real magic of India.
Also, I wish to express appreciation to the following people and sources who have made possible the picture gallery of India and magic which has been used to illustrate this book: the American Consulate General, Calcutta, India; Ron Ormond (with permission of A. S. Barnes & Company, Inc.); world traveler magician and hypnotist, Arnold Furst; Benjamin J. Kleinman, International Ambassador for The Society of American Magicians; P. C. Sorcar, Official Ambassador of Magic for the Government of India; Yog Kohi and Bina Murti, Directors, Government of India Tourist Offices; Rabindra Seth, Public Relations Manager, India Tourism Development Corporation of New Delhi, the Oxford Book & Stationery Company of Calcutta, Moonyeen De Silva of Sri Lanka, Prof. S. C. Bose, the Bose Collection of India; renowned magician and magic historian, Milbourne Christopher, and the Great Virgil from his extensive tours in India.
This ancient carving at Mahabalipuram is known as "The Penance ofArjuna." The face of a huge whale-shaped, rock has been carved into a massive base relief believed to be the largest in the world. It depicts Lord Arjuna in the act of doing penance so as to obtain a boon from Lord Shiva. Besides the animals, gods, and angels, the mythical story of the river Ganga issuing from its source in the Himalayas and fables from the Panchatantra have been sculptured with remarkable realism.
