Steve Pressley of Cary, NC died on April 5,1992. He was 43. Steve had just finished publishing his first book, Endless Possibilities and had a one-man insert in The Trapdoor. A broken ring ceremony was held on April 8. More than a dozen magicians and two hundred others were in attendance.
I have a lot of memories of Steve. Most are small memories... a big collection of small memories. Most of my memories take place at Hardees between the hours of 11 :G0 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. The balance were from Steve's magic room where Keith Eisel, Peter Schilling, and I spent our monthly session the evening before, and the very early hours of, the day he died. Steve Hook was another frequent participant in the sessions, although he couldn't make the last one.
Steve is one of the few magicians who could fool me with some degree of frequency. He fooled me the worst on April 5th —I thought he would be around for a long time to come.
His presence will continue in The Trapdoor as I still have a few unpublished items of his. For those of you who don't have his new book, I would encourage you to send $20 ($26 overseas airmail) to Jill Pressley at 1112 Highland Trail, Cary, NC 27511. There's the old axiom among magicians to always "leave them wanting more." Steve succeeded. He left all who had known him or read his material wanting more.
