Information Steal

A related idea uses a stack of cards and a standard card sleight.

You hold a stack of business or index cards and an envelope. The stack of cards is in the left-hand dealing position. Hand the top card to an audience member and ask him to draw something (or write something; it doesn't really matter). When he's through, take the card face down and hand him the

envelope. Point to the light with your left hand and ask him to hold the envelope up to make sure it's not transparent. As you gesture toward the light, you top-change the drawing card for the top card of your stack. When he indicates that he's done so, have him open the envelope for you to slide the drawing in.

The real drawing is on top of the stack to do with as you see fit. Personally, I would double turnover the top two cards and pretend to write something down. Turning the double face-down, you hand it to another audience member. Have the first person burn the envelope or place it in your pocket (just get it out of their hands). Have the first person call out his thought. Then have the second person reveal your "thought." Since he's reading from the first person's original card the odds are pretty good that they'll match!
