Props:
1 marker board or piece of poster board for the spectator 1 felt tip marker for the spectator 1 large envelope or portfolio for the word cards and the marker board 1 bell with handle, preferably a glass bell 1 trick blindfold
1. Ask a spectator to come on stage with you and blindfold you. Then step into the audience.
2. Have the spectator take the cards out of the envelope and discard two of them. Have him make a three digit number out of the three remaining cards.
3. Have him take the card which contains his number, and instruct him to look at the word next to that number.
4. During this time, you steal a quick glimpse at the number of the card containing the word the spectator has chosen.
5. The spectator writes his word on the piece of poster board and shows it to the audience.
7. Take off the blindfold, go back on stage, and send the spectator back to his seat with the bell. Since you know the chosen word group, you can concentrate completely on presentation.
Because of my great visual problems it is no longer possible for me to write my books at one sitting and then proofread them myself, as I used to. Fortunately, my student, Florian Faust (that is his real name!) has been so kind as to organize my confused and barely readable notes and my taped comments. He has expanded upon certain segments and has managed to organize everything into the logical production you have before you. Without him, this booklet would not have been possible. A "thank you" is the least I can offer him.
NOTE:
In the following five "Word Cards", on the back of each is a number that corresponds to the group. These numbers have been taken from the original "Word Cards" that are supplied with the original booklet. The group names and page numbers have been removed so that the "gaff cannot be tipped."12
We include a set of the following five cards which duplicate the next five pages. You can obtain duplicate sets of these cards by ordering them as indicated. However, it is much better if you develop your own lists of words. BP and CMSjr
12 For the record the Group Names are: Group 1 = Underwater (100 = Auto), Group 2 = Desert (200 = Omnibus), Group 3 = Robbery (300 = Eric), Group 4 = Camp (400 = Homeless) and Group 5 = Football (500 = Regulation). CMSJr
