Born and raised in the Hunan province of China, Juliana's rise to become one of the World's top magicians is the sort of story that would make a brilliant movie. Not only does she possess supreme manipulation skills, she is a performer of the classiest kind and has performed to amazed audiences from China to Las Vegas.
In 1997, Juliana won title; World Champion Magician, Manipulation, at The World Congress of Magicians in Dresden, Germany. In doing so she became the first woman and first woman of Chinese heritage to win the title in the 50-year history of the competition. A true world magic star, magicseen were delighted to talk to Juliana about her amazing life and career.
As a three-year old, Juliana was taken to the theatre by her nanny, and she was regularly put to work tugging on a long rope that swung a suspended carpet, fanning the audience below to keep them cool. When she was ten, a group of communist party officials came to her school looking for candidates for the prestigious Hunan Arts School. The recruiters selected the beautiful Juliana, and her father, a worker on the Chinese railway and a supporter of Mao, knew what an honour it was to have his daughter plucked from obscurity and offered a lifetime sinecure in the company - possibly as a ballerina or an acrobat. Says Juliana: "So, you see, to begin with, I did not really choose to be an entertainer. The government chose me. They selected me at a very early age to be a professional entertainer and I was duly enrolled at the Hunan Academy of the Performing Arts.
